What to Expect

Starting your journey of self-discovery and personal growth can feel exciting and scary. At BroadMind Therapy, I want to make this process as comfortable and transparent as possible.

Step 1: Initial Consultation

The first step is to talk to me, and I know it can be nerve-wracking, especially if it's your first time seeking help. But don't worry, you have options to reach out:

  • Text or call me at 07763 708345
  • Email me at Broadtherapy@gmail.com
  • Fill out the contact form on the website.

Here's what you can expect when you decide to take this important step:

I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation where we can talk about your needs and any questions or worries you have. You're in control, and there's no pressure to commit to therapy. You can decide what feels right for you.

Step 2: Your First Session

Your first therapy session is a crucial starting point on your journey towards personal growth and well-being. It's an opportunity for us to get to know each other better and establish a strong foundation for our work together. Typically, the first session runs longer, usually around 55 minutes. This extra time allows us to delve into your background and experiences, helping me better understand how we can move forward effectively. It's also a perfect chance for you to ask any questions you may have and gain insights into the therapeutic process.

Step 3: Moving towards a happier and healthier you

Subsequent sessions will typically last 50 minutes, but I'm flexible and can adjust the session length based on your specific needs.

My rates are £55 per session.

I can offer a limited number of spaces for those on low incomes or for students. Please contact me to ask about availability.

What happens in a counselling session?

There is no great mystery. When you begin therapy with me, you control what we explore and discuss. Your sessions take place in a safe and non-judgmental space, so you can talk freely and honestly about your experiences and current issues. I work on the principles of respect, and empathy – and will listen to you intently, helping you explore your emotions and get a good sense of your feelings. Therapy aims to help you find the answers from within, so you can understand better and move forward with your life.

Is counselling confidential?

Everything you discuss with me during our sessions is confidential.

There are only two exceptions to this: if you disclose involvement in or knowledge of any criminal activities such as terrorism, money laundering and drug trafficking. The other exception is if you tell me that you or another person could be under threat of harm or abuse. We will talk about this if it comes up.

Please note that I offer a safe inclusive space which is LGBTQ+ affirmative, I do not consider anyone to be wrong or in need of fixing, although sometimes you may be feeling 'stuck'.

How long and how often do I expect to undergo counselling?

The length of your therapy is as unique as you are.

I would usually suggest that you agree initially for 4 sessions and then we can discuss whether you would like to continue. For most people, 6 to 8 sessions is the minimum needed to achieve positive change, but every client is different and this is something we will regularly review together.

It is important to attend regularly, this allows the process to build some momentum and supports gradual, steady progress towards your goals. You may not be able to attend weekly sessions and we can arrange fortnightly meetings, however progress is often slower.

How is my personal information and health data protected?

Your privacy and data security are paramount at Broad Mind Therapy. I use Doxy.me, a secure and HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform, to conduct online therapy sessions. Doxy.me employs state-of-the-art encryption and security measures to safeguard your personal information and health data. You can be confident that your sessions are confidential and protected.

I ensure your safety via telephone and video counselling through using Doxy.me and have been able to support clients living all over the UK and Europe. Using this platform I have been able to effectively and easily support people from London, Ipswich, Barnsley, St Ives, Gillingham, Ripley, Edinburgh and Dublin (to name but a few).

How do the session times work

It is expected that your session starts at the agreed time. Any session that does not begin at this time, due to late client arrival, cannot be extended beyond the agreed finish time. If you do not arrive or contact me within 15 minutes of the agreed time, this will be considered a cancellation.

"I did not really believe in therapy until I tried it. Jolene has helped me find happiness where there was none. She is supportive and easy to talk to. Strongly recommend her to anyone struggling to find themselves or happiness."
